Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The dangerous situation happened on the third circuit when safety workers were observed on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an premature pit stop to change his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Moments later, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two guys running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, honestly, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a miscommunication somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track track officials can be allowed to just dash across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is thoroughly reviewing the situation

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the apex of that corner" commented the governing body

"On lap three, track officials were informed and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send officials were canceled and a safety warning flag was raised in that section"

"We are still investigating what occurred subsequent to that time"
