Patriots Equal Best Victory Run From Brady Era with Triumph Over New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had taken the lead at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to conclude the New York's first possession
But the New England answered in the second quarter as Henderson scored two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be great."
Fields threw to Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots sealed the triumph
